About
Dance Uprising
MAKING HUMAN CONNECTIONS THROUGH DANCE
ORIGINS
Dance Uprising is the voice, the rebellion, the brain child for dancer/choreographer Amy Cadwallader. Brought up in an environment that encourages quiet, pretty little girls, Cadwallader seeks to break the mold and to bring light to the conversations that were never spoken in polite company. She creates dance works that challenge the norms that her own daughters might see as they grow up. Amy is joined by a cast of ten creative individuals for the 2025-2026 season who bring their unique worldviews to the work.

GOALS
-
First and foremost, to create a human connection with every dance encounter.
-
To create dance works that speak to the human condition, to our current societal influences, to equality and change.
-
To create access to dance experiences for children and adults in Southeast Michigan through dance workshops, classes, residencies, and intensives.
-
To share a love of dance with other dancers and community members in our open company classes and community classes.

In addition to the four goals above, an important tenet of Dance Uprising is to support the work of the dancers. This means providing payment for their time in rehearsal or performing, recognizing them for the professionals that they are, paying them for time spent planning and leading community engagements, and providing studio and performance venues for all of that to take place.
To build community engagement, we teach master classes and workshops, participate in and host community dance showcases, and present our own dance concerts. We have performed at the Detroit Dance City Festival held at Detroit Institute of Arts, Shape // Matter Showcase at Liberty Plaza in Ann Arbor, Elgin Fringe Festival in Elgin, IL, and so many more events.
